Low-Carb Green Smoothie With An Added Boost of Energy From MCT Oil

MCT oil powder is my absolute favorite way to incorporate healthy fats into my diet, especially by way of this Keto Smoothie Recipe. Derived from coconuts, MCT Oil rapidly becomes absorbed by our bodies, then converted into physical energy and causes improved mental performance. The days that I do not have MCT Oil in my smoothie or my coffee, I instantly notice a decline in my ability to focus and my energy output in the gym. There is rarely a day that goes by that I don’t add MCT Oil or MCT Oil Powder to a drink or meal!

I use Perfect Keto MCT Oil Powder and it gives me the extra boost of energy I need to power through my days and remain satiated between meals.

Perfect Keto products are a pantry-staple of ours. If you are running low, you can use code “REALBALANCED” for 15% off your Perfect Keto orders!

Description

This Keto Green Smoothie is the ultimate superfood smoothie! One serving is only 4.1g net carbs, full of fiber, and is keto, low-carb, paleo, low-glycemic, egg-free, nut-free, gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, vegan, and refined-sugar-free!

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup (20g) spinach blend
  • 1/2 medium avocado (~135g)
  • 1 scoop (10g) MCT oil powder (use code “REALBALANCED” for 15% off Perfect Keto Products!)
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp matcha powder
  • 1 tbsp (12g) golden monk fruit sweetener (use code “REALBALANCED” for 20% off Lakanto brand products!)
  • 1/2 cup (120mL) coconut milk (from a carton)
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 5 ice cubes

Optional additions:

  • 1/2 tbsp (~6g) chia seeds, soaked in 2 tbsp water for 15 minutes
  • 1 tbsp (~6g) collagen powder
  • 1/4 cup vanilla protein powder (my favorite paleo protein powder or my favorite vegan protein powder)
  • 1/2 tsp maca root powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to blender and blend until well-combined.
  2. Serve and enjoy!

Recipe Notes:

Coconut Milk Substitution: Instead of using 1/2 coconut milk, you can substitute in 1/4 cup (60mL) heavy cream + 1/4 cup water.

Maca and matcha are pretty different, but using maca would work just fine here! The flavor will be different and the carb content will increase though.

It was okay. I also made a few tweaks. I added 1/2 tsp peppermint extract and about 2 tbsp cacao nibs. It’s extremely creamy so I ended up making it a smoothie bowl and added shredded coconut on top. I think the recipe is a decent start and perhaps just fine for some people, but personally I needed a bit more for my taste buds.

I made it very simple without the options. I added a leaf of mint and a little more monk fruit and find it filling and refreshing. I like that it is so simple.

How can this be Keto/low carb at 25g per serving?

There are 4.1g net carbs per serving. Recipes on Real Balanced are always calculated by their net carb content. To calculate net carbs, subtract fiber and sugar alcohols from total carbs. If you use total carbs, you can omit the sweetener, which will significantly reduce the total carb content.

Probably very healthy, but its edibility is questionable at best. I had to make a LOT of additions to make this not outright offensive — more coconut milk and water, more sweetener, more vanilla, and more matcha. After that, it was… okay.

I used unsweetened almond milk instead of water and some heavy cream + almond milk as substitute for coconut milk, for me that turned out great
