Bring water in a pot over high heat to a boil. Add broccoli florets to a steamer basket, cover with a lid, and steam broccoli florets until fork-tender, about 5-6 minutes.

Add avocado oil to a large pan over medium heat and then, using a ¼ cup mixing cup, spoon the mixture into the pan and flatten it.

Cook them for about 2-3 minutes on the first side. Check them and if you can easily flip them over without them breaking and their golden brown on that side, flip them and cook them for another 1-2 minutes. (You may need to lower the heat to medium-low if the oil starts to get too hot and is turning dark.)

Ingredient substitutions for pan-fried keto broccoli fritters

  • Broccoli: You can substitute cauliflower in at a 1:1 ratio. Note that the flavor and texture will be different than what the original recipe intended.
  • Eggs: Storebought egg substitute should be able to be used in place of eggs. Read the packaging and use equivalent to 3 eggs. You can also try to use a vegan egg substitute like a flax egg, psyllium husk egg, or chia seed egg, though I have not personally tested this.
  • Grated Parmesan Cheese: Grated sharp cheddar or white cheddar would be the best alternatives to Parmesan here.
  • Ground Sunflower Seed Meal: For this recipe, you can substitute almond flour at a 1:1 ratio. I cannot say how much coconut flour should be used as a sub as I have not tested this.
  • Garlic Powder: Use 1 tsp freshly minced garlic in place of garlic powder.

Keep in mind any changes you make to this recipe will modify the total net carbs.

Pan-fried keto broccoli Parmesan fritters FAQs

Instead of using whole broccoli florets, can I use riced broccoli?

Yes. This is an excellent idea! Steaming riced broccoli (microwavable would be easiest) will speed up the prep time for making these. If you can’t find riced broccoli, mixing all the ingredients and putting it in the food processor is a time-saver also.

Can I use cauliflower for this recipe?

Of course! Follow the recipe as written. Just substitute broccoli for cauliflower. Besides cauliflower, you could also use zucchini or butternut squash. Remember that substituting different vegetables in the recipe will affect the calories, net carbs, and overall nutritional content per serving.

Besides greek yogurt or sour cream, what other dips would taste good with broccoli fritters?

Other dipping sauces that will taste great with keto broccoli Parmesan fritters are ranch, spicy mayo, or Yum Yum sauce.

How do I store pan-fried keto fritters?

These can be kept in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. To reheat, lightly oil a skillet and cook on both sides until heated throughout. Microwave cooking is acceptable, but they will become soggier than if cooked in a pan.

Can I freeze broccoli fritters?

Yes! Place fritters on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet, then put in the freezer for about 30 mins. Once flash frozen, store them in a freezer bag or in an airtight container. The fritters will last up to 3 months in the freezer.
