This One-Pan Low-Carb Creamy Garlic Chicken is a perfect 30-minute weeknight keto, nut-free, and gluten-free meal option! Serve on its own or alongside some steamed cauliflower rice for a delicious and filling dish.



  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 tsp freshly-cracked black pepper


  1. Chicken: Season chicken breasts with garlic powder, pepper, and salt.
  2. Heat 2 tbsp (30mL) oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. 2 pieces at a time, cook chicken until golden on each side and cooked through, about 3 minutes per side, depending on the thickness of your chicken). Transfer cooked chicken to a plate and set aside. Wipe pan clean with paper towel, add 2 tbsp (30mL) oil, and cook remaining 2 pieces of chicken. Transfer cooked chicken to plate and set aside. Do not wipe pan clean after cooking these.
  3. Creamy Garlic Sauce: Reduce heat to medium-low, add remaining 2 tbsp (30mL) oil to pan, and cook onion until softened, about 1 minute. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about an additional 30 seconds.
  4. Pour in chicken stock and, using a wooden spoon, scrape up browned bits. Allow mixture to sit and simmer until it reduces slightly, about 3 minutes. Pour in heavy whipping cream and simmer for about 1 minute. Stir in Parmesan cheese and allow it time to melt.
  5. Final Steps: Add cooked chicken back to pan and allow it to simmer to thicken the sauce, about 2 minutes. Garnish with parsley and freshly-cracked pepper. Serve alongside or atop steamed cauliflower rice.

Recipe Notes:

Chicken Breast Substitution: Chicken thighs can be used in place of chicken breasts.

Avocado Oil Substitution: You can substitute olive oil at a 1:1 ratio for avocado oil.

Unsalted Chicken Stock Substitution: Salted chicken stock can be used at a 1:1 ratio. However, if using salted chicken stock cut back on the added salt in the recipe. You can also use beef stock or vegetable stock. Alternatively, you can also use a variety of unsalted broth.

Heavy Whipping Cream Substitution: Combine 1/4 cup of melted butter with 3/4 cup of milk and mix thoroughly to make the equivalent of 1 cup of heavy cream. You can also use half-and-half at a 1:1 substitution ratio, but note the sauce will be slightly less creamy than the original recipe intended. If you are avoiding dairy, you can substitute full-fat canned coconut milk at a 1:1 ratio, but note that this will alter the carb content and the flavor of the dish.

Grated Parmesan Cheese Substitution: Grated asiago cheese would make an excellent alternative to parmesan at a 1:1 ratio.

What To Serve With This Dish: Any steamed vegetable is a great option! I personally serve this dish atop microwaveable steamed cauliflower rice. I like the Green Giant brand of frozen cauliflower rice.

Net Carbs: Per serving, this dish contains 5.5 grams of net carbs. The recipe, as written, yields 4 servings. Net carbs are calculated by taking total carbs, subtracting fiber, and subtracting sugar alcohols.

Refrigerator Storage: Store the cooked chicken in an airtight container for up to 4 days in the refrigerator. See reheating instructions below.

Freezer Storage: Store the prepared dish in an airtight container for up to 3 months in the freezer. When ready to eat, thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating following the instructions below.

Stovetop Reheating Instructions: Cook in a pan over medium heat until warmed throughout.

Oven Reheating Instructions: Bake at 350 degrees until warmed throughout.

Microwave Reheating Instructions: Microwave for 1-3 minutes, depending on the wattage of your microwave.
