Ingredients

  • 1 block 8 ounces Halloumi cheese, cut into thick slices (about ½-inch in width)
  • 2 Tablespoons 15 grams all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tablespoons 16 grams cornstarch
  • ¾ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • tsp pepper
  • Cooking oil spray

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Position oven racks on middle and top racks of oven. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Coat: In a shallow bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Toss fries in flour mixture until evenly coated. (If needed, lightly spray the fries with cooking spray to better adhere the flour mixture to the fries.)
  • Arrange on Baking Sheet: Gently shake off excess flour mixture from each fry, then transfer coated fries to prepared baking sheet and arrange them in a single layer, ensuring they don't touch each other (this allows them to crisp up nicely).
  • Bake: Transfer baking sheet to middle oven rack and bake for 10 minutes.
  • Flip: After initial bake, remove baking sheet from oven and carefully flip each fry over. Lightly coat each fry with cooking spray.
  • Broil: Transfer baking sheet to top oven rack and turn on oven broiler. Broil fries until cheese is golden brown, approximately 30-90 seconds. Watch them carefully to ensure they do not burn.
  • Final Steps and Serve: Remove baking sheet from oven and allow fries to cool slightly. Serve on their own or with a dipping sauce while they're still warm.

Notes

To Make This Recipe Low-Carb: Use ⅔ cup crushed pork rinds instead of flour and cornstarch.
Refrigerator Storage and Reheating Instructions: Let the fries cool down to room temperature before storing them. Once cooled, place them in an airtight container, using parchment paper between layers to prevent sticking. Store them in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat them in the oven, air fryer, or on the stovetop. Keep in mind, however, that freshly made halloumi fries offer the best texture and flavor.
